ROBERT PALMER
NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Robert Palmer died Friday (June 29, 2001) at Mercy Hospitals in Des Moines after a long illness with cancer.
Robert was born Nov. 27, 1931, in St. Paul, Minn. to Percy and Myrtilla Palmer. Robert attended school in Emmons, Minn.
He farmed west of Glenville with his father until he enlisted in the Army. After returning from the Army he resumed farming for a while. He then quit farming and moved to Glenville, Minn. He was united in marriage to Beverly Warner in Glenville on Aug. 13, 1958. He was then employed by Claussen Construction as a construction operator in the Glenville area building county roads. They moved to Northwood, Iowa, in 1966 where he was employed by Coleman Grain, Central Soya, and Continental Grain all at the same location in Northwood. In the summer of 1986, Robert and Beverly moved to Des Moines, where he was employed by Bob's Fast Lube, then at Rhiner Plumbing until the time of his illness. Robert enjoyed building and repairing things, working outdoors, reading history books, watching old movies, cooking and visiting with family and friends.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2001 at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, with Pastor Paul Holmer officiating. Interment services will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville. It was Robert's wish to be cremated.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Palmer, of Des Moines; a son, Alan Palmer and his wife, Peggy, of Northwood, and their children, Monica, Samantha and Blake; a son, Robert Scott Palmer and his wife, Kris, of Des Moines, and their children, Katie and Jennifer; one daughter, Valerie Dusing and her husband, Randy, of Mukwonago, Wis., and their children, Brieanna, Abby and Kevyn; a daughter, Michelle Bush, of Des Moines and her children, Megan, Jamal, and Savon; and a son, Harley Palmer, of San Antonio, Texas.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Lela Palmer; a sister, Ruth; and a brother, Charles.
