LELA VIOLA PALMER

NORTHWOOD, IOWA - Lela Viola Palmer, 95, of Northwood, died Monday (June 25, 2001) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, 1000 First Ave. N. in Northwood, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville, Minn.

Friends may call one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

Conner Colonial Chapel of Northwood is in charge of the arrangements.

The family of Lela Viola Palmer has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.

Lela Viola Palmer was born on Jan. 17, 1906, in Carpenter, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Lena (Clikeman) Hilborn. She attended and received her education in the Northwood School System, graduating from Northwood High School.

She was united in marriage to Percy Palmer on June 11, 1933, in Glenville, Minn. He preceded her in death in 1957. After their marriage together they farmed around the Emmons, Minn. Lela was also a caregiver for numerous families around the North Iowa and Southern Minnesota area.

Lela enjoyed cooking for family and friends, and doing needlework and embroidery.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Robert Palmer and his wife, Beverly, of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Jane Palmer of Kensett; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, Percy Palmer, who died in 1957, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Charles Palmer; a daughter, Ruth Palmer; and a sister, Alice Olson.
