EVELYN CAROL SORENSON

HANLONTOWN - EVELYN CAROL Sorenson, 79, of rural Hanlontown, died Monday (March 19, 2001) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown with the Rev. David Werges officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Hanlontown.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in her name to Grace Lutheran Church, Special Projects Fund.

Evelyn C. Sorenson was born March 26, 1921, to Samuel and Mildred (Stuckey) Gooden, at Britt. She received her education in country schools through sixth grade. She attended junior high in Hanlontown and graduated as an adult from North Central Community High School in Manly.

She was united in marriage to Kelmer Sorenson on Aug. 14, 1937. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Hanlontown.

She was active throughout the years as a Sunday school teacher, a member of W.E.L.C.A., a church council member and a member of the church circles.

She was director for six years at the Worth County Children's Development Center in Kensett and was director for two years at the Children's Garden in Northwood, which she helped to organize.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years, Kelmer, of rural Hanlontown; one daughter, Deloris Downs, and husband, Dan, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; one son, Lynn, and wife, Cynthia, of rural Hanlontown; five grandchildren, Stacey Lunsford and husband, Victor, Joel Lemmerman and wife, Leah, Jamie Sorenson and wife, Angela, Michelle Gobrecht and husband, Duane, and Christina Sorenson; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kyra Sorenson, Drew Lunsford, Jake Gobrecht and Shelby and Courtney Lemmerman; one sister, Lavon; one brother, Sam Gooden and wife, Rita; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.
