LEROY HANSON

NORTHWOOD - LeRoy Hanson, 71, of Northwood, died Thursday (Aug. 19, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. Ninth St., Northwood, with the Rev. Al Stoa and the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Following funeral services, his body will be cremated with burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 27, in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7920, Osage.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the First Lutheran Church and one hour prior to services on Monday.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood, is in charge of funeral arrangements.

LeRoy Hanson was born on Oct. 28, 1927, in rural Northwood, Worth County, the son of Albert E. and Ella Florence (Anonson) Hanson. He was baptized in their home in rural Brookfield Township, and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Bristol Lutheran Church. He attended and received his education in the country schools at Brookfield No. 3, rural Northwood.

After completing his schooling, he helped out his parents on the family farm. He then rented a farm south of Tenold on the Melvin Burtness farm. On Sept. 8, 1950, he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving overseas in Germany during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on Aug. 29, 1952. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Diamond Trucking Company in Charles City. He was also employed for seven years with Deckers Meat Packing Company in Mason City, Al Severson's Mobile Home Trailer Park as a maintenance person for 14 years in Northfield, Minn. and Waseca, Minn. For three years, he worked in the Lumber yard in Northfield, Minn. and Kensett Homes in Kensett until his retirement in 1988. LeRoy also lived in Manly for 10 years, where he was the school crossing guard and also delivered Meals on Wheels before moving to the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7920 in Osage, former member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly, Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mason City, former member of the Manly Lions Club, Sons of Norway and former member of the Eagles Lodge in Northfield, Minn.

Left to cherish his memory is a twin brother, Lawrence A. Hanson, of the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood; several cousins; and special friends, Gary Drentlaw and his wife, Barb, and their children, Phillip, Lesia, Kim and Andy, of Northfield, Minn.; Cheryl Cooper, of Mason City, Peter Ferleman and his wife, Loie, of Mason City, Bea Ferleman, of Olatha, Kan., and David Ferleman, of Tennessee, as well as other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
