Mildred (Perkins)(Watt) James -- 1916-2010
Mildred Watt James, 93, died Sept. 27, 2010, at Austin Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.
Mildred was born on Oct. 19, 1916, in Barton Township, Worth County, Iowa to Clifford and Ida (Johnson) Perkins. She was baptized and confirmed at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Iowa. She graduated as class valedictorian in 1934 from Otranto High School in Iowa. She moved to Austin to work where she met and married Donald Loren Watt on Oct. 31, 1935 and together they had six children. They divorced in 1968.
She married Joseph James in 1974 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she had been a member since she moved to Austin in 1935. She worked at Hormel Corp. for 27 years before retiring in 1974. She enjoyed her family, bowling, playing cards, bingo, crocheting afghans, quilting, entertaining her family and friends at her lake home, fishing and trips to the casinos.
Survivors include her children: Joanne Clark, Bloomington; Edward (Susan) Watt, Hemet, Calif.; Bonnie Peterson, Austin; Marilyn Watt, Minnetonka; Donna (Richard) Rohrbacher, Charlestown, Mass., and Highland Beach, Florida; and daughter-in-law, Shirley Watt, Austin; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Irma and Dorothy Perkins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; son, Richard Watt; granddaughter, Catherine Clark; sisters: Hazel Glassel, Doris Hollerud Lee; brothers: Clinton, Lloyd and Warren Perkins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 1st at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Reverend Ron Barnett officiating. Friends may greet the family at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
Memorials preferred to St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
