MANLY, IOWA - Marvin "Butch" L. Arp, 71, of 210 Taft, died Wednesday (July 21, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa under Hospice care, Mason City.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway, Manly, with the Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Manly.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. today, Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly. There will be visitation from 9 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 24 at the Bride Colonial Chapel.
Memorials may be directed to the Marvin L. Arp Memorial in care of Beverly Arp, Box 261 Manly, IA 50456.
Marvin L. Arp was born June 19, 1939, in Manly, the son of Barney and Minnie (Detzel) Arp. Marvin attended Manly Schools. Marvin was united in marriage to Beverly (Froning) on May 7, 1960, Manly; to this union five children were born. He worked at Winnebago, owned and operated with his father an excavating company working in North Iowa and Southern Minnesota.
He was a carpenter, mechanic, welder and electrician. He helped build a street from Highway 9 to the country club, helped build the John Adams School, the Lehigh and Northwestern Cement Plant and helped build many bridges along the highway. Marvin also worked for Dewey Electric. While working for Webster City Electric he helped wire the Lake Mills High School. Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and nature. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Beverly Arp, of Manly; children, LeAnn (Willie) Veal, of Lake Mills, Sandy (Rod) Kimpling, of Fertile, David (Carmen) Arp, of Mason City and Pamela Arp, of Manly; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Beverly McClung, of Mason City, Gary (Sue) Arp, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Mary Ann (Ron) Purkapile, of LeRoy, Minn.; along with several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, son Terry Arp; and granddaughter, Christina Kimpling; grandsons, Dustin, Cody and Timothy "Gus".
