Julia I. (nee Sippel) Hanson, 87

Julia I. Hanson, age 87, of Mason City, Iowa, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Muse Norris Hospice, Mason City.

She was born April 3, 1914, in Albert Lea, to William and Mary (Huber) Sippel. She was a graduate of Albert Lea High School. On Oct. 15, 1938, she married Elmer O. Hanson. She resided at Heritage Care Center, Mason City for the past two years. Her husband operated a Mobil service station in Mason City. They farmed for several years in the Lake Mills and Northwood, Iowa areas and near Dexter. Moving to Rudd, Iowa in 1963, they purchased a grocery store, which they operated as Hanson's Superette, until retirement in 1973. After her husband's death in 1978, she moved to Mason City. She will especially be remembered for her jelly rolls and sugar cookies.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Kathy Hanson, Hugo; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jerry Hoy, Nashua, Iowa; Jane and Jack Balkenende, Mason City, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Kirby, Woodbury; Irene Enstad, Albert Lea; sister-in-law, Marge Sippel, Albert Lea.

She was preceded in death by husband, Elmer in 1978; son, Jerry in 1978; brothers, Bob and Albert Sippel; sister, Laura Knudsen.

Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2002, at the funeral home and Wednesday at the church for one hour before the service.

Service: 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, Iowa with Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating.

Interment: Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood, Iowa.

Funeral Home: Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, Mason City.
