Lucille (Liddy) Hogen, 83, of Kensett, died on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007 at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, Iowa. Service was on Friday, Sept. 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with Rev. Tom Martin officiating. Burial was in the Elk Creek Cemetery.
Liddy was born on July 13, 1924 in Lake Park, Minnesota to Oscar and Matilda (Marshall) Moen. She attended school in Ayr, North Dakota where she graduated from high school. She worked for farmers cleaning and milking cows as well as worked for the family owned ‘Page Hotel’ as a cook and housekeeper. Liddy married Obert Hogen on Feb. 3, 1946.
Liddy played basketball with her high school team that went 104-0 in five years, with five state championships as well as Liddy making all-state all five of those years. She enjoyed ice skating, playing cards, attending her children’s activities, as well as her baking, particularly her ‘famous’ cinnamon and homemade buns. She enjoyed visiting people and was also an expert seamstress.
Liddy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Melvin and Arvid, one sister Millie Midlang; one grandson Michael and great grandson Carter.
She is survived by her four children; Orville (Sharon) Hogen of Mankato, MN, Paul (Connie) Hogen of Northwood, Wendy (Larry) Malo of Mason City, Iowa, Carol Hogen of Larado, Texas; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice (Toots) Holden of Grand Forks, ND and Betty Rutherford of Page, ND.
