William (Bill) Bailey Alexander, 79, of Northwood, Iowa, died Saturday, May 19, 2007, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services were held on May 23, at the First Lutheran Church,  Northwood, with Reverend Daniel R. Hart officiating.  Burial was at the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota, with military honors.

William (Bill) Bailey Alexander was born on July 7, 1927, in Jackson, MN, the son of Charles Ross and Leona (Bailey) Alexander.  He graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1945.  He was inducted into the U.S. Navy on June 18, 1945, in St. Paul, MN, and served on the USS LSM-101 Navy Ship during World War II, and was honorably discharged on August 23, 1946 in Minneapolis, MN.  Bill graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in agriculture and taught agriculture in the Blue Earth, MN High School.  He was united in marriage to Marjorie Sechler. Bill along with his family moved to Iowa in 1958 and managed the feed mill in Kensett.  Bill also worked in the agribusiness for various companies, and B&K lumber company in Northwood, before retiring from Pioneer international computer division in 1993.
 
He was united in marriage to JoAnn (Gullickson) Carlson on August 19, 1978, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Bill did volunteer work and was past presidents for Mended Hearts, and the Iowa Heart Association.  He was also involved in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Crusillo, former church council member at First Lutheran Church, and taught Sunday school at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett, First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and was on the Northwood-Kensett Booster Club. Bill also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golf.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, JoAnn Alexander of Northwood, two sons, William (LuAnn) Alexander, Jr. of Winthrop, MN, Charles (Beverly) Alexander of Lakeville, MN, stepchildren, Kim (John) Kraft of Winter Haven, FL, Kevin (Lisa) Carlson of Christiansburg, VA, and Kari (Kirk) Stoa of Maple Grove, MN, six grandchildren, Matthew (Lindsay) Alexander, James (Christina) Alexander, Rachael (Michael) Newman, Jenna Alexander, Brianna Alexander, and Brittany Alexander, ten step-grandchildren, Melanie and Bryce Carlson, Kyle, Ryan and Todd Kraft, Taylor, Nicholas, Jana, Joshua, and Emma Stoa, two sisters, Betty (Edward) Hanna of California, and Norma (James) Jensen of Edina, MN, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

His parents, wife, Marjorie, son, Scott, and a brother, Charles, preceded him in death.
