Mabel `Inez' Shackleton

MANLY, IOWA -- Mabel ``Inez'' Shackleton, 86, formerly of Eagleville, Mo., died Saturday (June 22, 1996) at the Manly Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Roberson-Polley Funeral Home, Eagleville, Mo., with the Rev. Joe DeBarth officiating. Burial will be in Lone Rock Cemetery, near Eagleville, Mo. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.today at the Roberson-Polley Funeral Home. Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is handling arrangements.

Mrs. Shackleton was born June 28, 1909, near Pawnee, Mo., daughter of Berry and Cynthia (Bowen) Johnson. She attended rural schools in Harrison County, Mo.

She was married to Elmer Glade Shackleton on Sept. 9, 1926, in Bethany, Mo. The couple farmed many years near Eagleville, Mo.

Mrs. Shackleton also worked as a cook at the State Line Cafe and later at her sister Amy's cafe, both in Blythdale, Mo. She enjoyed baking pies and attracted many customers because of her pies. She enjoyed having large vegetable and flower gardens, crocheting, quilting and traveling. She especially loved solving crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.

She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the new 20th Century Club and the Golden Age Club.

Survivors include three sons, Clyde Shackleton and his wife, Ella, of Mason City; Ora Shackleton and his wife, Mary Lou, of Spring Valley, Minn.; and Eugene Shackleton and his wife, Gwen, of Manly; one daughter, Irene Webb and her husband, Jack, of Leon; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; two sisters, Amy Harrison and her husband, Harold, and Ruby Weddle, both of Bethany, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Shackleton was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her parents, Berry and Cynthia Johnson; one sister, Vergie Ward; and one grandson, Randy Shackleton.
