Dr. August Grosland died Sept. 26, 2006 in Gunnison, CO. Services were held Oct. 2, 2006, at the Community Church and the burial took place at the Gunnison Cemetery, Gunnison, CO.

Dr. Grosland, was born August 8, 1919 in rural Northwood, the son of Ole and Clara (Holter) Grosland. . He was baptized at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, and confirmed at the Bristol Lutheran Church, Joice, IA.

Dr. Grosland received his elementary education at a rural school in Brookfield township and graduated from Northwood High School in 1937 He graduated from Waldorf College, Forest City, IA, in 1939 and began his teaching career in a rural School in Brookfield township.

Dr. Grosland served in the Air Force during World War II. After the war he attended the University of Iowa and received a Master of Fine Arts in 1949.

He accepted a position in the Art Department of Western State College, Gunnison, CO. He later received a Doctorate in Education from the University of Missouri. He became chairman of the Art Department of Western State and judged art shows throughout the state. He retired from Western State College in 1979.

August Grosland married Loret de Koevend on Dec. 26, 1969.

August Grosland is survived by his wife Loret, sisters Martha Dahl, Austin, MN and Evelyn Garnas, Clear Lake, IA, sister-in-law Della Grosland, Mason City, IA, brother and sister-in-law John and Georgie Kincaid, Gunnison, Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ole and Clara Grosland and brothers Oscar, Carl, Louis, Elmer, Adolph and George. Also, two brother-in-laws Henry Dahl and Robert Garnas.
