Bert Butler, one of the best known real estate men in Northwood, was born in Kewanee, Wis., April 29, 1868. His father, Iver Butler, died in Norway in 1885. His mother, Mrs. Carrie Butler, resides in Northwood.
When he was three years old the family moved to Worth county and settled on a farm. He attended the Northwood high school, Decorah Institute, and Valder's School of Penmanship. He attended school and taught penmanship in Cedar Valley Seminary, Cedar Rapids Business College and Wilson's Academy of Penmanship of Chicago.
For several years he was engaged in writing and engraving work in Chicago. He also taught writing for the Metropolitan Business College of Sioux City, Iowa, He traveled and taught writing in 20 states from the gulf of Mexico to Canada. For a time he was engaged in the meat business in Minneapolis and in the tea and coffee business in Chicago. For five years he was in the machinery business in Kensett and later was two years in the real estate trade in the same town. Four years ago he moved to Northwood and opened a real estate office. He now has a finely equipped and centrally located office, having sub-agents in many localities in the middle west.
Mr. Butler was married at Kensett, Iowa, on the 25th of June 1892 to Miss Aletha Stensrud. They have five children Abner I., Clarice B., Walter M., Lillian M. and Elvira.
