In Response To: information on Payne family (Connie Caspers)

There is a Civil War Pension File for Elizabeth A. Payne, widow of James H. Payne, filed from Iowa and Minnesota. The James H. Payne referenced is the following:

James H Payne
Residence: Massachusetts
Occupation: Farmer
Age at Enlistment: 20
Enlistment Date: 8 Sep 1862
Rank at enlistment: Private
State Served: Massachusetts
Survived the War?: Yes
Service Record: Enlisted in. Enlisted in Company B, Massachusetts 52nd Infantry Regiment on 19 Nov 1862.Mustered out on 14 Aug 1863 at Camp Miller, Greenfield, MA.

Source: Massachusetts Soldiers, Sailors and Marines in the Civil War

It appears likely that James H. Payne is the same James H. Payne from Rowe, Franklin County, Massachusetts, the son of Calvin Payne and Celia (Wheeler) Payne. You might check out the extensive information about the Payne/Paine family in Ashfield, Franklin County, Massachusetts.
