Iowa City citizen, Iowa City (Johnson Co.), Iowa, 16 October 1918.

PROMISING YOUNG LIFE BRAVELY ENDED
Joseph O'Donnell who died at the hospital early yesterday morning was one of the most promising students who have ever entered the University and was a junior in the engineering college. When he entered school at the age of seventeen he made the highest rank in scholarship in the freshman class. Clean and of the highest principles he was idolized by all who knew him. Aflame with patriotism he said only a few hours before his death "I have a lot to give them yet;" when he was told that he had only a few moments for of life he expressed his expressed his resignation, bade his mother be brave and yielded up with prayer the soul he had done his best to perfect. The sorrowing parents who came from Sioux City have but one other child, a daughter nine years old. The parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O'Donnell, and Mrs. O'Donnell's two ssters accompanied the body to Sioux City where the funeral services will be held.
