21 November 2024Larry Byers, 74, passed away on October 22, 2024 in Omaha, NE.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the Salem Lutheran Church of rural Correctionville with the Pastor Jody Still Herbold officiating. Burial was at the Rock Branch Cemetery of Correctionville.
Larry Dean Byers was born on August 23, 1950 to Lloyd and Opal (Foster) Byers. After high school he attended Tyler-Foster Barber College in 1966.
Larry began his career in 1966 at Plaza Barbers in Sioux City. Over the years he owned and operated several small town shops. Larry returned to Sioux City at Greenville and retired while at Denny Wilde’s Barbershop after more than 50 years of barbering.
Larry was married to Dana Jo (Volkert) Olson on June 1, 1967. During their twelve years of marriage they had two children together. While both spouses went on to remarry, they remained in touch throughout their lives. Larry married Patt (Warren) in a Las Vegas ceremony on September 27, 1987. They were married for 22 years until her passing on June 8, 2009. Larry and Joni (Vencil) were married in a private ceremony by his brother, Keith on April 12, 2015. They moved to Joni’s hometown of Valley, NE where he was warmly embraced into another family as large as his own. During their time together they enjoyed fishing on the Vencil family farm ponds, tubing down the Elkhorn, cheering on the Cornhuskers and spending time with family. Larry enjoyed anything to do with hunting and fishing. He had a green thumb and enjoyed working outside in the garden.
He is survived by his wife, Joni; children, Anita and Darin; grandchildren, Haley, Kelsey, Alex, Ellah and Jerzy; great-grandchildren, Ayla, Axel, Maddox, Dawson and Lyle; stepsons, Nik, Nate and Chris; step-grandchildren, Anthony, Sarah, Paisley, Lincoln, Peyton and Barrett; brothers and sister, Keith, Dave, Lew, Jason, Jaret and Nancy; stepmother, Elaine Byers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave, Brian, Mark, Cathy, Sue and Deanne.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patt Byers; niece, Kassi Jo Sargent; son-in-law, Steve Krantz and parents-in-law, Frank and Carolyn Vencil. He will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
