Robert H. “Duke” Giese, 94, a dedicated and cherished father of five passed away peacefully on Aug. 12, 2024 at his residence, with family by his side.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in South Sioux City with Father Michael Keating as Celebrant. Burial will follow at a later date. Visitation, with the family present, will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Duke was born on June 29,1930 in Sioux City, to Henry F. and Helen M. (Hibbs) Giese in Dakota City, NE. He received his education in the Dakota City School District and finished his higher education at Wayne State College.

In 1950 he married Patsy Marie Cahill, his wife of 71 years, and to this union five children were born.

In his early career he drove a truck for Haleys and Rosenthal Foods and then switched to helping his parents operate D.C. Market in Dakota City for 25 years.

Then in 1980 he was elected Dakota County Treasurer which he then served for the next 32 years as a dedicated public servant. His tenure was marked by steadfast dedication to fiscal responsibility and community welfare.

His profound impact was extended beyond his professional achievements.

As a father, he was a pillar of strength and love, guiding and supporting his five children with boundless patience and wisdom. His legacy of kindness, diligence and devotion will be remembered by his family and his community he served with distinction.

He is survived by his loving children Julie Towler, Bob (Nancy) Giese, Sheila (Mark) Jungers, David (Tami) Giese. Bob had 15 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren.

Duke’s memory will live through the countless lives he touched and the values he instilled in those around him.

Robert H. “Duke” Giese’s legacy of service and love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Helen, his wife Patsy and his daughter Kathy, son-in-law Jim Towler, grandchildren Duke and Lori.
