Mark Joseph Groth, 75, of Anthon, Iowa, passed away at on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Josie Harper Hospice House of Omaha, Nebraska.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, September 20, 2024, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Anthon, Iowa. Father Michael J. Erpelding officiated. Committal Services followed in the Mt. St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery of Anthon, Iowa.

Mark Joseph Groth, the son of Elmer H. and Inez G. (Franzen) Groth, was born on March 26, 1949, in Sioux City, Iowa. He grew up on a farm outside of Anthon, Iowa and received his elementary education in Climbing Hill. When the family relocated to the town of Anthon, Mark attended St. Joseph Catholic School and then graduated with the class of 1967 from Anthon-Oto High School.

After graduation Mark went on to further his education at Wayne State College and Iowa Central College. On June 28, 1975, Mark married his soulmate, Ruth A. Wood, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Anthon, Iowa. The couple made their forever home in Anthon, and were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Amy and Angela.

Over the years Mark worked as a parts salesman at Hamann-Sauser Implement and at John Deere Implements before purchasing his own Implement, Groth Farm Store and “Cribbage Parlor”. Mark loved the town of Anthon, and donated his time as a volunteer fireman for 30 years, served as past Mayor of Anthon, was a member of the Anthon Community Club, and drove school bus for 50 years.

Mark loved a good game of cards, especially cribbage. He enjoyed tractor rides, classic cars, watching car and tractor auctions, and MASH. Mark was his daughters’ and granddaughters’ #1 fan; never missing a game or activity. His granddaughters were the apple of his eye, whether it was tractor rides around town with Jamy or making concoctions at the kitchen table with Abby. He loved being “Girl Trapped” by his family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife of 49 years, Ruth Groth of Anthon, IA; daughters Amy (Jeromy Stroman) Peters of Sioux City, IA and Angela Groth of West Des Moines, IA; granddaughters Jamy and Abigail; brother LaVere (Macel) Groth of Alamo, TX; sister LaDonna (Al) Peters of Sioux City, IA; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his father Elmer Groth and mother Inez Manley; stepfather Bernard Manley; brothers Leo (Coeleta) Groth, Lyle (JoAnn) Groth, and John (Bernice Lea) Groth; and nephew Marlin Groth.
