Peter Myron Wolterman was born March 3, 1936, in Danbury, Iowa, to Peter and Teresa (Ortner) Wolterman. He grew up on the family farm, the second youngest of nine children. He had offers to visit colleges for basketball, but due to his father’s illness, he stayed on the farm after high school to help his mother and continue farming.
He married Lois Iwen on June 11, 1960 and they lived on the farm until 1972 when they moved to Danbury. Peter and Lois had two daughters: Sandy and Shelly.
After moving to town, he owned and operated Pete’s Oil Company. He later joined Lois to work at WinnaVegas, where he was a supervisor. He was one of the first EMTs for the town of Danbury and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Peter was very active in golf, bowling, and especially softball with the Danbury Shamrocks. He was an avid sports fan, particularly the Boston Red Sox and the Nebraska Huskers. In 2015, he and Lois moved to central Iowa to be closer to his daughters and grandchildren, and he was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Peter never met a stranger and made friends wherever he lived and went. He could visit about any topic and loved to brag about his grandchildren. He was a man of great faith and a devout Catholic, and you could often find him with a rosary or prayer book in hand. He was a gentle man who worked hard, always wanted to do the right thing, and treat people the right way.
Peter is survived by his daughters Sandy Copic (Bill) of Waukee, IA; and Shelly Wolterman of Johnston, IA; his four grandchildren: Samantha Anderson of Los Angeles, CA, Sydney Anderson of Chicago, IL, Kathryn Neese of Urbandale, IA and Caleb Neese of Clive, IA. Peter is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents Peter and Teresa; wife Lois; siblings Marcellus, Ethel, Kathleen, Leota, Vera, Lois, Ardis, Kay, and their spouses.
We thank the staff at Madrid Home and Hospice of the Midwest for their special care of our dad.
