Dr. Neil Patrick

Dr. Neil Patrick, 87, of Afton, Iowa and Port St. Lucie, Florida, died Friday, September 20, 2024, at his home in Afton.

Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the POWERS FUNERAL HOME IN CRESTON, Iowa.

The service will be LIVESTREAMED found on a link at our website www.powersfh.com under events.

Pastor Diane Koger will officiate.

Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mapleton, Iowa.

Memorials can be directed to Neil’s wife, Dr. Veronica Patrick.

Neil Arch Patrick, son of Sylvester Joseph Patrick and NaDyne Newman (Nepper) Patrick, was born on October 15, 1936, in Mapleton, Iowa. Neil attended Mapleton schools and graduated in 1954. He continued his education by attending Iowa State University and received his bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and doctorate while there. During his doctoral studies, he was contracted to research and write a history of the Ford Foundation’s contribution to agricultural development in India.

In 1956, Neil was united in marriage to Caryll Ann Davis in Sioux City, IOWA. They lived and worked in Des Moines, a farm in Castana, and Ames. From this marriage they were blessed with three children – Cindy, Kenneth and Dennis. In the 1970s, Neil was an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Through a consortium, Neil was commissioned to design and work on agricultural development projects in four countries in Africa. Neil and Caryll divorced in the early 1980s.

Neil taught at Fort Hayes State University in Hayes, Kansas until his retirement in 2003.

In 2004, Neil was united in marriage to Dr. Veronica “Ronnie” (Jones) Beasley in Hayes, Kansas. They maintained two residences: one in Afton, Iowa, and another in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Neil is survived by his wife, Ronnie Patrick; his children, Cindy Patrick of Dallas, Texas and Kenneth Patrick of Las Cruces, New Mexico; 4 grandchildren, Abigail, Kristi, Melissa and Dennis, Jr; 4 great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Sandra (Lamar) Cope of Irvine, California., Pamela Likins of Kings Mountain, North Carolina; Lynn (Shirley) Patrick of West Bend, Iowa; Arlen (Carol) Patrick of Ames, Iowa; Galen Patrick of Osage, Iowa; Nancy Patrick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Amy (Phillip) Patterson of Orient, Iowa; Kyle (Pamela) Patrick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; NaDyne (Larry) Meyer of Garnavillo, Iowa; Sara Hayward of Harlingen, Texas; Kevin (Linda) Patrick of Carroll, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents; his son Dennis Patrick, a brother Joel Patrick, two brothers-in-law Dick Linkins and Russell Johnson; a sister-in-law Petie Patrick.
