David K. Soelberg

May 8, 1938 - July 24, 2024

SOUTH SIOUX CITY - David K. Soelberg, 86, of South Sioux City, NE, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2024, in Sioux City, IA. Abiding by his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, August 5, 2024 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

David Kent Soelberg was born on May 8, 1938, in Sioux City, IA, to Oliver and Edythe (Ellingson) Soelberg. He graduated from Central High School and then served honorably in the United States Air Force for five years.

Dave owned and operated the South Sioux City roller rink with his best friend, Mary Kay Fustos, for many years. Eventually the roller rink became the Pizza Palace. He later worked at the grain elevator in Dakota City, NE. After his retirement, he worked for twenty years as a community service officer with the South Sioux City Police Department.

Dave was a well-known and gifted organist. He played for many years at the roller rink and Pizza Palace, for the Sioux City Musketeers, and at the Orpheum Theater. He also enjoyed buying and selling used cars and collecting Musketeers memorabilia.

Dave is survived by his brother, Steve (Cheryl) Soelberg, of Lake View, IA; his niece, Susan (Bob) Simcox of Des Moines, IA and Bob's children; his nephews, Scott (Christy) Soelberg of Seattle, WA, and their children, Sam and Leah; and Jeffrey (Kristin) Soelberg of Granger, IA, and their children, Alison, Andrew, and Ashlyn. Dave also leaves several cousins and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and best friend, Mary Kay Fustos.
