Kirk, age 78, passed away on July 29, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Curt Chaussee and Ellen (Welsh) Chaussee. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa. He then joined the U.S. Navy. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and a Master's Degree in Art Therapy from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.
He found such joy in all things related to the arts and was quite an accomplished artist. He worked as an Expressive Artist and held expressive art workshops and art therapy classes at museums, rehab centers and in small group settings. He was an Art Therapy Therapist at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Kirk had a knack for sharing his personal experiences to encourage others.
He enjoyed traveling and during his lifetime lived in many cities: Sioux City, Iowa; Omaha, Nebraska; Emporia, Kansas; Reno, Nevada; Lake Tahoe, California; Sacramento, California and San Francisco, California, before settling in Kansas City, Missouri, where he had lived since 2015.
He was preceded in death by both parents. His survivors include siblings: Mary and her husband, Dick Allen, of Newport Beach, California; Jane and her husband, Tony Sanders, of Sioux City, Iowa; Scott Chaussee, of Pueblo, Colorado; Erik and his wife, Debra Chaussee of Omaha, Nebraska; Ann and her husband, Mark Sisley, of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews. A military memorial and interment will take place in Leavenworth, Kansas, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery.
