Harry Albert Johnson passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the age of 95. His Graveside Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Logan Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa with Pastor Dave Koehler officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Offutt Air Force Base Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital. Harry was born February 12, 1929, to John Albert and Hilma Julianna (Carlson) Johnson. He attended Fairview Country School and graduated from Holstein High School in 1946. After high school he attended Morningside College in Sioux City and graduated in the spring of 1951. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he went to pilot training. He served four years active duty as a pilot during the Korean Conflict. After his years of active duty, he joined the Air National Guard and attended weekly reserve meetings.
Harry and JoAnn were married on October 26, 1952. Their first four years of marriage took them to different Air Force bases in Texas and Florida. Upon discharge, they settled on a farm near Grand Meadow, Iowa. During these years on the farm, Harry and JoAnn were successful in raising their three children, livestock and crops. Harry and JoAnn moved to Dakota Dunes, South Dakota in 2008 where they enjoyed retirement.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years , JoAnn Johnson; children Bill (Jill) Johnson of Scottsbluff, NE, Fred (Tammy) Johnson of Waverly, Iowa and Cindy (Jim) Wurr of Ankeny, Iowa; five granddaughters Amy (Matt) Symes, Melissa Johnson, Jessica (Dave) Allen, Christina Johnson and Breanna (Ben) Stainbrook; six great grandchildren Kyler and Camden Johnson, Lucy and Annie Symes, Remington Allen and Sebestian Stainbrook.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; sister Thelma Haenfler; brother-in-law Hap Haenfler and brother Wally Johnson
