John Hoelker, 49, of Sioux City, a resident of the Anthon community until three years ago, died Wednesday afternoon, July 28, after suffering a heart attack at the Fairmont Food Company plant, Sioux City, where he had been employed only three days as a janitor. Dr. Harmon H. Rider, Woodbury County Coroner, said the victim was stricken while performing his duties and died immediately.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Anthon, with Rev. A.M. Conlon officiating. Burial at Mt. St. Joseph's Cemetery, Anthon, was held at 11 a.m. Sunday under direction of Hudgel Funeral Home. Interment services were postponed pending the arrival of a son, Pfc. Merritt Hoelker, from Shaw Field, North Carolina.

Pallbearers were six cousins, Theo. and Joe Eickholt, Tony and Albert Hoing and Joe and John Meier.

Mr. Hoelker was born in 1899 at Anthon and had operated a farm near here before going to Sioux City three years ago. He was married to Elizabeth Hildreth of Anthon November 20, 1925.

He was a member of Sioux City aerie 77, F.O.E. and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Surviving are the widow, Elizabeth; four sons, Pfc. Merritt Hoelker of Shaw Field, North Carolina; and James, Gerald and Tony, of Sioux City; two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Cloud of Anthon and Elizabeth Ann Hoelker of Sioux City; his mother, Mrs. Catherine Hoelker of Anthon; two brothers, Joseph of Lawton and Elvin of Correctionville; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Laehle of Sioux City and Mrs. Thorvald Jensen of Bronson and one grandchild.
