TOWN OFFICIAL DIES AT ANTHON

Merritt Hildreth, Clerk, Stricken Suddenly, Was 67

Anthon, la. Special: Merritt Barr Hildreth, 61, town clerk of Anthon for the last four years, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon just after he had entered his car in front of the residence of Mayor James Burke on whom he had called to discuss town business. The cause of death was not given by the attending physician.

Mr. Hildreth was born August 14, 1878, in Mills County, la. When he was 1 year old the family moved to Monona County. At Ute, la., on August 14, 1901, he married Miss Bessie B. McKinstry.

The family moved to Anthon 26 years ago and with the exception of four years at Denison, Ia, this has been their home. For about 10 years Mr. Hildreth operated a bus line between Sioux City and Anthon.

Survivors are the widow; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoelker and Mrs. Winifred McGraw, both of Anthon; a sister, Mrs. Delia Marshall of Murtaugh, Idaho, and eight grandchildren.

Requiem high mass will be said, at 9:30 a. m. Thursday by Rev. A, Cordon in St. Joseph's Catholic church here. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery at Anthon. Hudgel's funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
