Nicholas J. Gotto, Sr., 90, was born May 15, 1878, at Hastings, Minnesota. When a young boy he moved with his parents to a farm near Mapleton. On January 17, 1911, he married Anna Hehn at Mapleton. They farmed in Danbury, Mapleton and Oto communities, retiring in 1948.

He fell at his home in Oto Friday evening, fracturing his shoulder and was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City where he passed away Thursday afternoon.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Oto.

Survivors include the widow, Anna, four sons, Nicholas Jr. and Henry both of Oto, Leo of Mapleton and Joseph of Correctionville: five daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Katherine) Lewis and Mrs. Joseph (Doris) O'Connell of Smithland, Mrs. Harold (Mae) Handke and Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Ronfeldt of Bronson, and Mrs. Tracy (Anna) Handke of Oto, two brothers, John Gotto of LeMars and Adam Gotto of Hugo, Colorado, 26 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

He was preceded by his parents, six brothers, three sisters and one grandson.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oto. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery at Anthon under direction of Walter Funeral Home.
