Flowers may be sent to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3012 Jackson St., Sioux City, IA 51104.

Jim was born July 31, 1939, in Tulsa, Okla., and was adopted by Milton Harold Gilbert and Mildred Elizabeth (Sieleman) Gilbert shortly thereafter. The family would relocate to Kansas City, Mo., and remain there for most of Jim's youth, seeing him thru graduation from Lillis High School in 1957. Jim married Kathleen (Kathy) Iglehart on June 5, 1965, in Overland Park , Kan., at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic church. They would have 2 sons, Jimmy and Gene.

Jim attended university off and on until finally receiving a Master of Arts in history in 1973 from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, but it was his minor in Chemistry that would serve him in his working life as a chemist at power plants across the Midwest. His last stop was MidAmerican's Neal South Generating station in 1987 where he would remain until his retirement.

Jim was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts and participated with his sons from Cub Scouts thru Boy Scouts as a pack and troop leader. He was an avid photographer with a darkroom for developing photos. He loved to collect things from his youth: comic books, science fiction books, toys, and mechanical banks. He loved traveling, especially to see family in Las Vegas and Texas. One of his passions later in life was public speaking and storytelling. He was a member of Toastmasters International speaking club and shared his love of public speaking by working with high school toastmasters groups for two decades.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Kathy; and is survived by his sons, Jimmy and Gene; and his grandson London.
