Funeral services for Mrs. Merideth Banta, 75, of Anthon who died Sunday morning at Valley View nursing home in Correctionville were held at 10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday) in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Anthon with Rev. George Benjamin and Rev. Thomas Munn officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery under direction of Walter Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were nephews, Ed and Joe Conley, Pat and Mike Murphy, William Dicus, Jr. and Leo Miller.

Ethel Estella Banta, daughter of Patrick and Anna McDermott Murphy, was born March 14, 1896, at Dunlap, Iowa. She moved with her parents to Anthon in 1900 and except for a brief period spent in Oklahoma, had been a lifelong resident of this community. She married Carl Umbach on January 30, 1918, in Oklahoma. Mr. Umbach died in 1924. She married Merideth Banta February 6, 1944, at Anthon. Mr. Banta died in 1949.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include three sons, Raphael of Detroit, Michigan; Marvin Umbach of Anthon and Michael Umbach of Opa Locka, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. William Dicus of Sioux City and Sister Mary Cleopha of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Thomas and John both of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded by her husbands, her parents, one sister and two brothers.
