Melvin O. Lunda 1928 - 2022

Melvin Lunda, 94, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away Thursday, October 13, 2022, at his home. A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery.

Melvin was born March 10, 1928, in Lebanon, South Dakota the son of Leonard and Florence (Vail) Lunda. He grew up, attended school and worked on the farm in Lebanon. Melvin married Lois Case November 8, 1958, in Yankton, South Dakota. They moved to Sioux City in 1963. Lois passed on April 2, 2011.

Melvin and his brother, Marlin, worked together with their dump truck, working around the area. He drove Semi hauling heavy equipment for Lee & Johnson Paving Company, until Melvin went to work for Standard Ready Mix in 1965 and worked there until 2006 when he retired, after 41 years.

Melvin was a Jehovah’s Witness for many years. He loved traveling and camping with his wife, Lois, spending time with his grandchildren. Melvin enjoyed watching stock car races at the local track, and the Kansas City Royals, he was an avid Sioux City Musketeer’s fan. Melvin and Lois loved to go and watch the Nascar Races.

He is survived by his two children, Michael (Nancy) Lunda of Sergeant Bluff, and Donna (Wade) Capron of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Trent, Melanie, Tayleigh, Amy and Amanda; nine great-grandchildren, Riley, Alyssa, Alex, Noah, Ellie, Tegan, Adalyn, Avery and Rhett; and one nephew, Robert Lunda of Eagle Grove, Iowa.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; brother, Marlin; and a sister-in-law, Kathy.
