Mary J. Eldridge 1856 - 1946

Mrs. Mary J. Eldridge, 90, of Sergeant Bluff, died Tuesday morning in a hospital, after a hip injury suffered a week ago in her home. She had resided in Sergeant Bluff since 1922.

She was born February 11, 1856, in Middleport near Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. As a child she lived in Acma, Mich., where she became a member of the Methodist church. Two years later the family, moved to Sigourney, la. About 67 years ago the family moved to Correctionville in a covered wagon.

For 20 years her husband, J. W. Eldridge, served as overseer of the Woodbury County home and she served as matron. They were married March 7, 1875, in Winona, Minn. He died in 1923.

Mrs. Eldridge was member of the Sergeant Bluff Community Methodist church, Isis chapter Order of Eastern Star, the White Shrine, the Women's Relief corps, the Royal Neighbors of America and the Pioneer, club of Sergeant Bluff.

Two children died several years ago.

Surviving is a granddaughter, Mary Elklen Kingsbury oh Sioux City.

The W. Harry Christy funeral home in Morningside is directing arrangements.
