Frances S. Kline, 90, of Naples and formerly of Sioux City passed away on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Mount Sinai Cemetery (part of Floyd Cemetery), 2500 7th St., Sioux City, immediately followed by a memorial service and lunch at Congregation Beth Shalom, 815 38th St., Sioux City. At an early age, Frances Kline's family moved to New York City where she remained until her teenage years. They then moved cross country to California, where Frances graduated from San Bernadino High School in 1949. She immediately went to work in a variety of sales positions, one of which piqued her interests and introduced her to the ins and outs of the stock market. With that knowledge in hand, she returned to her roots in New York City, worked her way up and received her stock broker's license at a time when few women worked on Wall Street. In an effort to expand her client list, she reconnected with Marvin Kline whom she originally met 10 years prior while both were living in California. Marvin visited Frances in NYC, and that sealed the deal. The couple married in Manhattan in 1962 and returned to Marvin's hometown in Sioux City.

While Iowa was a slower pace than the Big Apple, Frances herself certainly wasn't ready to rest on her laurels. She launched Design By Kline, a needlepoint store in 2005 and partnered with her husband in the launch of Royal Apple Travel, through which they were able to see and travel the world together. But the couple's true love was the arts, music and their family. Whether it was the Sioux City Symphony, the Orpheum Theater, the Convention and Tourism Board, Lamb Productions or a variety of other organizations, they put their heart and soul into Siouxland. "We both feel strongly about giving back to the community," Frances said.

The Klines helped Lamb Productions find a permanent home in the former Webster School, and in 1992, Frances Kline, with the support of Marvin and children, Jaimie and Julie, created Project Hope, a $150,000 fund to provide scholarships to 25 disadvantaged students. Ever the student herself, Frances enrolled in Morningside College and earned her degree in 1995. She continued on there as a member of the college board of directors. Her studies and continuously curious nature didn't end there, however, as she went on to conquer Spanish and French, as well as piano and the guitar. And while she had a passion for fashion, her best ensemble was her garden. Her beautiful bouquets and arrangements were well and widely known. And like the vibrant colors of that garden, her true colors will forever make the world a brighter place. In honor of that, we encourage you wear your brightest colors to the ceremony.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren Jaimie Kline of Alpharetta, Ga., and his children Sam and Olivia, and Julie Kline of Bloomington, Minn., and her children Jonah and Isabella.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Marvin.
