Virginia B. Uhl-Olsem, 87, of Dyersville passed away surrounded by her children on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa.

Private family services will be held today at Kramer Funeral Home. A private graveside service will be held on Saturday at Little Sioux Township Cemetery in Smithland, Iowa. Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville is assisting the family, and information is available at www.kramerfuneral.com. Virginia was born on March 19, 1935, in Rodney, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Velira (Beaver) Dawdy. Virginia graduated from Smithland High School in 1953 and went on to complete comptometer school. Before her marriage, she was employed at Swift & Co. in Sioux City. She married Ronald Uhl on June 1, 1957. After their marriage, they were blessed with three children and Virginia became a loving mother and homemaker. Ronald preceded her in death in 1997. She later married Arnold Olsem on June 9, 2000. Arnold also preceded her in death in 2009.

She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Virginia enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was overjoyed with the arrival of eight great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling in her later years.

She is survived by her children Teresa (Kevin) Hoeger of Bucyrus, Ohio, Gary (Dawn) Uhl of Dyersville, and Kathleen (Kevin) Gudenkauf of Dyersville; grandchildren Nicole (Jason) Goddard, Ben (Kelly) Hoeger, and Alex, Wesley (Katie), Travis, and Kayla Gudenkauf; great-grandchildren Allison, Logan, and Mackenzie Goddard, Harrison, Maddie, and Grace Hoeger, and Luka and Micah Gudenkauf; brother, Edward Dawdy of Sioux City; and in-laws Norma Reed, Betty Uhl, and Jan Uhl.

She was also preceded in death by her husbands; parents; brother, Eugene (Ginny) Dawdy; sister, Bethene (Don) Jessen; and in-laws Wilfred Uhl, Perry Uhl, Gene Ronfeldt, and Duane Reed.

Memorials may be made to The Good Neighbor Society in Manchester or The American Diabetes Association.

The family would like to thank all the nurses, aides, and staff at The Good Neighbor Society in Manchester and St. Croix Hospice for all the wonderful care and kindness they gave to Virginia and her family.
