Gerald J. "Jerry" Thompson, 82, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel. Private graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be directed to meyerbroschapels.com.

Jerry was born the son of Earl and Ella (Thornton) Thompson on Oct. 25, 1939 in Sioux City. He attended Central High School.

Jerry married Evelyn Schellinger on Feb. 28, 1959, in Bronson, Iowa. They made their home in Sioux City and enjoyed 63 years together.

Jerry worked as an engineer second class at several companies including the Warrior Hotel and Metz Baking Company. He retired as a courier from FirstStar Bank.

Jerry will be remembered as a man who could fix almost anything. He liked to tinker and work on home improvement projects. In his younger years he enjoyed boating, fishing, and traveling. He became fond of his time at heart rehab and made many friendships there.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Jamie (Dan) Ahrendsen of Hinton, Iowa, Mitchell (Mary) Thompson of Oxford, Iowa, and Michael Thompson of Sioux City; grandchildren, Adam (Erin) Ahrendsen, Casey (Amanda) Ahrendsen, Blake (Rebecca) Ahrendsen, Alexandra (Nickel) Hermanson, and James Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Mia, Abigail, Claire, Camron, Molly, Urijah, and Reece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Charlotte and Norma; and brothers, Kenneth, Eugene "Tony," Ronald, and Thomas "Tommy."
