Mrs. George L Thom 1862 - 1960

Funeral service for Mrs. George I. Thom, 98, former resident who died at Oxnard, California, Friday, April 22, were held in Correctionville at the Methodist Church at 2 P. M. Wednesday, April 27, Rev. C. Q. Wallace officiating.

Organist Annabel le Camarigg played "Sweet Hour of Prayer" and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.”

Interment was made in Good Hope Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Leon Strawn, Stoltz Hart, Gerald Goodwin, Harry Heritage, Randall Van Houten, Merle Leonard. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Randall Van Houten and Mrs. Elmer Mill.

Ella May Orner, 5th and youngest of Isaac and Elizabeth Pamelia Ashmore Orner, was born January 12, 1862, on a farm two miles north of Jamestown,
Wisconsin. In the fall of 1864, the family moved into Jamestown, where On April 12, 1865, Mrs. Orner died. Then the family moved to a farm 31/2 miles east and 3 miles north from Platteville, Wisconsin. In 1866, Mr. Orner married Mrs. Maria C. Lillard, who had two children, Nettie and William, Jr., by a former marriage.

The deceased was 8 years old when the family left Wisconsin September 4, 1870, by horse team and covered, wagon, and via Dubuque, Ft. Dodge, Sac
City, and Ida Grove, entered Correctionville September 25, 1870, after a three weeks trip across the state of Iowa.

The family settled in 1871, on the present Earl Fullerton farm 2 1/2 miles north of town where Mrs. Orner died in 1889, and Mr. Orner in 1904.

Ella M. Orner was married to George I. Thom November 21, 1880, in Correctionville. They farmed until 1885, then settled in town where Mr. Thom established a transfer business, served as mayor, was a merchant, and was an associate in the Sioux Valley Milling Company flour mill. Mr. Thom died
in 1934. Mrs. Thom in 1945 went to her daughters, Mrs. George W. Farnsworth, at Lander, Wyoming, and later they moved to Oxnard, California, where Mrs.
Thom passed away.

Preceding her in death, besides her parents and husband, were 5 children, Johnnie of Correctionville: Elizabeth (Mrs. Dr. Edward H. Crane) of Playa del Rey, California; Robert of Correctionville; Ernest of Sioux City, and Raymond of Oxnard, California.

Surviving children are Judge George A. Thom of Bismark, North Dakota; Margaret (Mrs. G. W. Farnsworth) of Oxnard, California, and Victor L. Thom of Fargo, North Dakota.

Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Allen Orner of Correctionville: William Henry Orner of La Mesa California, Sammy Shelton Orner of Jamestown, Wisconsin, and one sister, Mrs. D. K. Freeman (M. Jane Orner) of Correctionville; a stepsister, Mrs. Nettie Foster and step-brother, William T. Lillard, Jr., both at Gettysburg, South Dakota.

Out of town relatives and friends attending were Miss Rae Wetmore, Mrs. Ina Lillie, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Craig Thom and son, Douglas, all of Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. Orville Albers of Mapleton; Judge George A. Thom and wife of Bismark, North Dakota; Mrs. Margaret Farnsworth and Mrs. Mark Menard of Oxnard, California; and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rollins of Quimby.
