Funeral Services For John Coon, 84, Held Here Sunday

Funeral services for John Coon, longtime resident of Correctionville who passed away Thursday June 1, in a Sioux City nursing home, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o ’c lock at the Wilson -Hull Funeral Home. Mr. Coon had been in failing health for several years.

S. L. Schuler, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiated at the services.

Music was furnished by the recording system — “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere’’ and “In The Garden.”

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Henderson cared for the flowers and Clove Robinson arranged the cars.

The pallbearers were Fred Ashmore, Howard Ashmore, Clifford Ashmore, Harold Walker, Ray Worthan and Sam Worthan.

Burial was made in the Correctionville cemetery.

John Coon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Coon, was born January 12, 1866 at Spring Green, Wisconsin.

He lived most of his days in and around Correctionville, coming to Iowa, when a boy of about 12 years of age.

He was united in marriage to Musetta Anderson, Sept. 21, 1891. After their marriage, they farmed west of the Bethel church for a number of years, then they purchased a farm south of Correctionville on which they lived until he was forced to retire due to failing health. At that time, they purchased a Home in Correctionville in which they lived until his wife’s death three years ago.

To this union 14 children were born. He leaves to mourn his death, eleven children, Elmer Coon, Meriden, Oscar Coon; Douglas, Wyoming, Goldie Anfinson, Cushing, Cecil Peterson, Pierson, Elva McCleary, Bothell, Wash., Ferne Murray, Los Angeles, Calif., Verle Pilot, Berkely, Calif., Eva Mansader, Los Angeles, Calif., Margie; Ferretti, Portland, Oregon, Wanda McWilliams, Richmond, Calif., 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Worthan of Correctionville.

His wife, two sons and one daughter preceded him in death.
