Gary G. Skinner, 76 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at a local hospital.

A celebration of Life gathering of family and friends will be held Friday September 16th at 2 pm at the Sergeant Bluff Fire Station, 204 Port Neal Road, Sergeant Bluff, IA. Military Honors provided by the United States Navy and the American Legion Post 662.

Gary was born July 12, 1946, in Sergeant Bluff, Iowa the son of Roy and Becky (Christopher) Skinner. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff Luton High School. After graduation Gary enlisted into the Navy and served on the USS Matthews and receiving an honorable discharge in 1969. He married Dawn Lynn on July 3, 1970; they made their home in Sergeant Bluff. Gary worked at Prince Manufacturing from 1969 until 2007 when he retired.

He was on the Sergeant Bluff Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years, serving as captain for 7 of those years. Gary was also a member the Sergeant Bluff American Legion Post 662. In his free time, he liked to go fishing and garden. Gary enjoyed going to Eddies for a beer and talking to his friends; and that is where he earned his nickname “Pops.”

Gary is survived by his wife, Dawn, daughter, Terri Hills, two sons, Roy (Becky) Skinner, Eric Skinner, brother, Gordon (Barb) Skinner, sister, Debbie (Ron) Branch, eight grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Floyd Skinner and Harry Skinner.
