David Romo Gomez, 33, of Sioux City joined his heavenly father on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Monday at Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church, 1000 Douglas St., in Sioux City. Private burial will be at a later date at Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 p.m. on Sunday at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. David was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico, on Nov. 18, 1988, to Maria Consuelo Gomez Zavala and David Romo Hermosillo. He was the oldest child of three siblings, but his extended family was very close and David regarded his numerous cousins as additional siblings. When his family moved here from Mexico, they lived at Atokad in South Sioux City where his sisters, cousins, and friends gained a lifetime of fond memories together. During his childhood, David participated in the Big Brother, Big Sister program that shaped his outlook on life and the path he chose to follow.

David attended South Sioux City High School until his graduation in 2008. He spent his high school years playing soccer, participating in Cross Country, Show Choir, and was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America. He began working at Premier Bankcard during his Senior year of High School and slowly moved through the company ranks during his 14 years there. His most recent position was Senior Unit Manager for Sales Retention. During his time at Premier he received the Presidents Award, which is the most prestigious award given to just one employee each year for demonstrating the highest level of professionalism and proactively looking for ways to better themselves, mentor others, and work as a team. His direct team also held the Team of the Month achievement for 36 months straight; he was extremely proud of his team and that accomplishment.

David met his wife Abby in 2010 through mutual friends. Their relationship started out as a friendship and quickly grew to love. They liked to spend their time together walking, attending family events, traveling, working on various house projects, relaxing together on the couch binge watching Netflix until 3 a.m., and singing at the top of their lungs while traveling in the car. Their daughter Lily joined them in 2011, followed by their son Lon in 2015, and Abdon in 2021. He was a self-proclaimed "Bad Ass Bearded Dad." Some of their favorite memories together as a family included multiple trips to Florida, Kansas City, a trip to New Orleans to visit his Big Brother Lon, cheering David on at his many races and having dance parties in the kitchen. He loved spending time with his kids - walking the dogs together, being a Dance Dad, playing disc golf, going to the arcade, working outside in the garden together, and praying every night with his family before bed.

David lived his life with a servant heart, he boasted thousands of volunteer hours during his adult life. He spent his time giving back through the Big Brother, Big Sister program with his little brothers Niko and Hunter. He held various positions in the Missouri River Runners Club, including President. His favorite Missouri River Runner event was the Turkey Trot that he planned every year to benefit the Siouxland Food Bank. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels, at United Way of Siouxland, and at the animal shelter walking and running dogs and helping them find their forever homes. He was the type of person who would stop at the side of the road to help anyone in need. He was someone who people knew they could rely on for support, encouragement, and mentorship. After his death, he was able to continue to give by fulfilling his wishes of being an organ donor.

David loved spending time with his extended family - helping them with projects, joking around with his cousins via Facebook group chat, attended cousins and family get-togethers, sitting in the backyard under his recently built pergola with a beer in hand. He especially looked forward to spending time at his mom's house on many long Sunday afternoons where he could catch up and spend time with her and his sisters over a hot homemade meal then falling asleep for a nap on her couch.

David had a special bond with his neighbors Bob and Marilyn Tallman, Dick and Sue Hrasky and Kelly Anderson. He looked forward to co-hosting an annual 4th of July party that included a large fireworks display with his neighbor Addison Thompson. He cared so much for his neighbors as if they were his own family and often times included them in his own family gatherings and celebrations.

Crazy Romo was known for his radiant smile and stunning hazel eyes, six-pack abs, and ability to eat like a garbage disposal. He was a huge Boston Red Sox fan and had a large hat collection. David loved to be outdoors - especially kayaking, fishing, and taking long rides on his motorcycle. He was very active and spent many years on volleyball and rugby teams showing off his fast reflexes. He loved to run and participated in many races that took him all over the Midwest. His cousin Jose "Fredo" Gomez recently completed a large tattoo on David's leg that commemorated all of his favorite activities. He loved going on adventures and meeting new friends, because there were never any strangers in David's life.

David is survived by his daughter Lily; sons Lon and Abdon; wife Abby; mother Consuelo Gomez (Isaias Saucedo); father David Romo; sisters Norma Romo Gomez (Juan Sanchez Jr.), and Veronica Romo (Temo Gomez); sister-in-law Sarah (Owen) Shay; nephews Cesar and Hudson; nieces Lesly, Paulina, Emilia, and Poppy; Godson Juan "Beto" Gomez; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and an untold amount of friends that he made along his journey here on Earth.

David was preceded in death by his angel baby Ariel Sebastian Romo; cousins Miguel Angel Soto Gomez, Diego Soto Gomez, Noah Parker, and Jose Luis Marquez Gomez; maternal grandfather Felipe Gomez; and paternal grandparents Guadalupe Hermosillo and Elites Abdon Romo.
