Les Jansen, 59, of Sioux City died on Monday, May 9, 2022 after a short illness.
Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Vigil at 7 p.m., on Monday evening at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Online condolences may be directed to www.meyerbroschapels.com.
Les graduated from North High School in 1981, and earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of South Dakota in 1985. After graduation, he returned to Sioux City, helped to care for his mother who suffered from a long-term illness and worked as a bookkeeper, restaurant manager, and clerk. For the past decade, he worked for Hy-Vee, at its location at 27th and Pierce Streets.
Les enjoyed helping others and treasured the relationships he was able to build with the friends he served. During the worst of the pandemic, he never hesitated and arrived at work every day, even arranging delivery of essential items to residents at a nearby assisted living home to limit the exposure of those were might be vulnerable to infection. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and those who got the chance to know him.
He is survived by three siblings and their families, brother Doug Jansen and his wife Emery of Austin, Texas, sister Kathy Zellers and her husband Kevin of Bismarck, N.D., and sister Terri Johnson and her husband Ron of Surprise, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
