Donovan "Donny" P. Plantenberg, 42, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Crofton, Neb. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City.

Mr. Plantenberg was born June 7, 1958, in Pierre, S.D., the son of Emu Henry and Lavine Elizabeth (Hegge) Plantenberg. He moved to Chamberlain, S.D., as a young child and to Sioux City in 1966. He attended West High School. He married Mona Frye on Aug. 8, 1986. He served in the U.S. Army from 1976 to 1979 in Korea. He worked for Klemmenson Construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, pool, bowling and horse shows.

Survivors include his parents of Crofton; a daughter, Heather Frye of Akron, Iowa; a son, Kyle Frye of Ireton, Iowa; five sisters, Norma and her husband, Ted Colt of Sioux City, Dianna Meacham of Reno, Nev., Reta Gill of Sioux City, Marcia and her husband, Steve Gubbles of Randolph, Neb., and Lisa and her husband, Jerry Collins of Sioux City; six brothers, Danny and his wife, Jeannie Plantenberg of Moville, Iowa, Norm and his wife, Lois Plantenberg of Sergeant Bluff, Merle and his wife, Kay Plantenberg of Grand Island, Neb., Keith Plantenberg of Sioux City, Kenny and his wife, Patty Plantenberg of Crofton, and Kevin and his wife, Bev Plantenberg of Canton, S.D.; a special, friend, Sherri Steeg of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Roger Plantenberg.
