Dorothy R. Burns, 75, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Timothy J. Hogan officiating. The body was donated to the University of South Dakota. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m., at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burns was born June 26, 1925, in Sioux City, the daughter of Tracy P. and Anna L. (Mitchell) Eyer. She was raised in Jackson, Neb., then moved with her family to Sergeant Bluff. She graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School in 1943. She then moved to Sioux City, where she graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1946, with a nurse's degree. She was employed as a registered nurse.

She married Arthur T. Burns on Dec. 30, 1950, in South Sioux City. She was employed with Julia's Valley Manor. The couple owned and operated 521 Tap from 1967 to 1969. Her husband died March 10, 1990, in Sioux City.

She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and American Nurses Association.

Survivors include two sons, Tracy D. Burns and his significant other, Eve Sides of Dakota City, and Michael F. O'Byrne and his wife, Barbara of West Virginia; two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Ken Routon of Sergeant Bluff, and Jackie and Greg Baldock of Sioux City; and nine grandchildren, Michelle Adams, Bill Burns, D.J. Routon, Justin Burns, Amanda Lovett, Beth Ann O'Byrne, and Katie, Kellie and Mitch O'Byrne. Her extended family includes three daughters, Bobbie Myers and Glenda Salmon, both of Sioux City, and Barb Steele of Independence, Mo. and nine grandchildren, Ginny Smith, Maggie, Pat and Nick Salmon, Heath, Chad and Joel Torno and Jim and Danny Steele.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Arthur T. Burns Jr.
