Betty Mae Pickering, 78, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 19, 2001 at a Sioux City nursing home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 2 p.m. Mon day at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. A.T. Washington officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Pickering was born Feb. 12, 1923, in Tekamah, Neb., the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Richardson) McDonald. She married Leonard M. Pickering on Feb. 17, 1941, in Sioux City. He died Oct 20, 1974, in Pender, Neb. She lived in Emerson, Neb., from 1952 to 1975, when she moved to Sioux City.

Survivors include five sons, James Pickering and his wife, Diana, George Pickering and his wife, Carol Ann, Lonnie Pickering and his wife, Emma "Leah," Michael Pickering and Freder ick Pickering, all of Sioux City; three daughters, Dorothy Pickering of Wausau, Neb., Sylvia Fuller, and Carol Gulbronson and her husband, Everett, all of Sioux City; 26 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Maxine Stevens.

Pallbearers will be Steve, Lennie and Danny Pickering, Dennis Fuller, Jim Gulbronson and Joe Gulbronson.
