Alene B. Fels, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Sturgeon Bay.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at First United Methodist Church in Baraboo, Wis. Visitation will be 10:20 a.m. until service time May 5 at the church. Arrangements 1970s photo are under the direction of Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and Hanson-Rago Funeral Home in Baraboo.

Mrs. Fels was born July 24, 1914, in Parham, Onatario, Canada, the daughter of William Norman and Lizzy Armanella Maude (Topping) Buchanan. The family summered in Parham and wintered in Sioux City. She attended Morningside College, where she played, in a string quartet in Sioux City.

She married Elwin A. Fels on Aug. 21, 1935, in Parham. The couple lived in Wayne, Neb., and Sioux Falls, S.D., before settling in Baraboo. She was employed as a clerk for the Wisconsin State Tax Department in Madison, Wis., where they lived for several years. After retiring they returned to Baraboo and summered in Parham. Her husband died Jan. 5, 1991. She later moved to Sturgeon Bay.

She was of the Methodist faith, and a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Baraboo. She was a volunteer at the Circus Museum and St. Claire's Hospital in Baraboo. She enjoyed skiing, sailing and playing the cello.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen and her husband, James Ebbeson of Sturgeon Bay, Marcia Wisner of Three Lake, Wis., and Rebecca Fels of Nashville, Tenn.; a son and his wife, Robert and Barbara of Menasha, Wis.; 16 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Craig, four sisters and two brothers.

Memorials may be directed to the Methodist Church in Baraboo or Sturgeon Bay
