Bernard L. Lander Sr., 71, of Sioux City died Monday, April 16, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Morningside Funeral Home.

Mr. Lander was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Sioux City, the son of Roy and Mary (Smith) Lander. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and East High School. He married Bette L. Holdcroft on July 9, 1948, in Sioux City. He was employed as a plumber with Foulk Plumbing and then co-owned Sanitary Plumbing during the early 1960s. In 1967, he started Lander Plumbing and owned and operated the business until retiring in 1995.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was a volunteer. He enjoyed golfing and boating.

Survivors include his wife; two sons and their wives, Lee and Dianne of Moville, Iowa, and Michael J. and Connie of Sioux City; two daughters, Sandra and her husband, Michael Prather of Sioux City, and Deborah L. Mead of Omaha and her fiance, Michael Miller of Blair, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Lander of Texas; two sisters, Marilyn "Kay" and her husband, Chuck Ciszewski of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Kathleen "Penny" Sencenbaugh of Sioux City; and his mother-in-law, Grace Holdcroft of Kingsley, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Tracy Michelle Mead.
