Helen Harriet (Greigg) Gehring, 79, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at NHS Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Belford-O'Neill Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, with the Rev. Michael Petri of Timothy Lutheran Church officiating.

Mrs. Gehring was born Oct. 8, 1921, in Granville, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Hattie (Torwelle) Greigg. She graduated from Ireton (Iowa) High School in 1939. She was employed with Northwestern Bell in Ireton and then as a secretary with the War Department at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., for six years. She also was employed as a secretary at the air base in Spokane, Wash.

She then moved to Sioux City, where she was a plant manager with Cudahy Packing. She managed a branch of American Dry Cleaners in Sioux City for 10 years. She owned and operated the White Spot Lunch in Sioux City for 10 years. She was then employed at the outpatient desk at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. She was the office manager for six doctors at Internal Medicine for more than 17 years, then an insurance secretary with Dr. Horst Blume for six years. She moved to Council Bluffs in 1996.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City and Timothy Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs. She was a member of Business and Professional Women in Sioux City, where she served as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president. She also served as president of the Democratic Party in Sioux City.

Survivors include a daughter, Geri Livermore of Council Bluffs; a grandson, Alan Livermore; a brother and his wife, Stanley and Cathy Greigg of Bethesda, Md.; two sisters-in-law, Wavie and Arlene Greigg, both of Sioux City; and three ' nieces and three nephews.
