Robert G. Doherty, 84, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Harvest Westside Nursing Home.

Services will Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Schleisman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Chalice service, all at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.

Mr. Doherty was born Feb. 2, 1917, in Sioux City, the son of Albert and Anna (Gordon) Doherty. He attended St. Joseph and Blessed Sacrament Grade Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1934.

He married Frances R. Everett on April 20, 1938, in Sioux City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was employed with McMaster Lenoir Grain Co., Iowa Public Service Co., Continental Baking Co., Internal Revenue Service and Benson Quinn Brokerage Co. for 25 years, where he retired as manager in 1980. His wife died Oct. 19, 1999, in Sioux City.

He served as president of Sioux City Grain and Feed Association and on the board of directors of Iowa Grain and Feed Association and Sioux City Grain Exchange for several years, where he also served as president. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister, Third Degree Knights of Columbus Epiphany Council 743 and Garrigan Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include two sons, Michael of New Port Beach, Calif., and Thomas and his wife, Fran of Leawood, Kan.; two daughters, Barbara Willoughby of Hawarden, Iowa, and Mary Jane and her husband, Lew Stahl of Cody, Wyo.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Paul Willoughby III; and a granddaughter, Karen A. Willoughby.

Pallbearers will be Frank and Paul Willoughby, Rob and Tim Doherty, Ron Frazier and Bill Puetz.

Memorials in his name may be directed to Blessed Sacrament Grade School Endowment Fund.
