AUTO AND BUGGY MIX; DAVE SHORT KILLED

(By correspondent)

A very serious and peculiar accident occurred in Pierson- Saturday evening in which David Short of Pierson received injuries from which he died about three hours later. E. J. Miller in company with Henry Brune, L. F. Puttman, V. Knaack and Wm H. Bauer were returning from a business trip to Sioux City in Mr. Millers car. As they came into town, they over took Mr. Short who was driving into town with his pump wagon on which was a gin pole that protruded from the back end of the wagon. As the car was passing, the pole was apparently swung by the turning of the wagon and caught the end of the front seat of the car, the pole being under the seat, Mr. Short was thrown from the wagon fracturing his skull. The front seat was ripped off the car from under Mr. Miller, no other damage being done to the car. Henry Brune received a bad cut across his face and forehead and L. F. Puttmann was somewhat bruised when the seat knocked him out of the car, V. F. Knaack had all the buttons torn from his overcoat. The mishap was purely unavoidable. Mrs. Short and children have the sympathy of many friends in and near Pierson and the vicinity for a good many years.
