Michael D. 'Mike' Krom

Sioux City

Michael "Mike" D. Krom, 53, of Sioux City, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

A prayer service will be held Monday, April 25, 2022 at 7 p.m., with the family present at 5 p.m. Services will be at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Cremation will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be left at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Mike, son of David and Arlene (Wingert) Krom, was born on March 16, 1969, in Sioux City. He attended Bronson Elementary School and graduated in 1987 from East High School. In high school, he worked at Bishops, where he created memories to last his lifetime. After high school he started his career at Besser, where he worked in purchasing and safety. He was most recently employed as the general manager for IBT Inc.'s Sioux City location.

Mike was blessed with two daughters, Kayla and Kelsey, from his first marriage. He always made sure to attend the girls' activities and passed his love of fishing, camping and boating onto them. On Dec. 31, 2012, Mike was united in marriage to Lisa (Welte).

During football season, Mike cheered on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers and Iowa Hawkeyes. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and wood worker who loved to "tinker" in the garage. His obsession for John Deere tractors was evident in his collection of anything "green." One of his favorite past times was driving his John Deere 4020 in tractor rides with his Allis-Chalmers loving father-in-law. He shared his love of John Deere tractors with his grandson Rylen, who affectionately refers to anything green as "papa's tractor."

Mike always looked forward to summer. He could be found boating, fishing, and in later years spending time at his camper in Platte, S.D., where he always welcomed visitors and made lifelong friends with the locals. He would spend hours upon hours taking a trip to town to visit the boat shop and hardware store, where he would have "coffee" in the early morning hours.

Mike loved his wife so much that he found himself the "father" of four fur babies. Saydie, Mia, Zoey & Reese were constant companions at the camper, where they would ride in the boat and lick the fish that were caught.

Left to cherish his memory include his mother, Arlene (Jim) Heck; wife, Lisa; daughter Kayla (Mike) Meins; grandsons Rylen and baby due in October; daughter, Kelsey (Mike) Krom; brother, Aaron Krom; godfather, Al (Coleen) Wingert; father-in-law, Skip Welte; brother-in law, Philip (Jana) Welte; sister-in-law, Kristi (Jeremy) Boatman; nieces and nephews, Jacson and Jace Welte, and Sienna, Xavier, Ireland and Zek Boatman.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Krom; mother-in-law, Judy Welte; grandparents, Frank (Esther) Krom and Carl (Helen) Wingert; and fur babies, Rocky and Saydie.

The family requests casual dress attire supporting one of your favorite teams. And for anyone that knew Mike knows that the only team he would not approve of is the Nebraska Cornhuskers!

Honorary pallbearers include Ryan Feddersen, Justin Chasteen, Nick Morgan, Ken Lieuwen, John Treglia & Darren Watkinson.

FISH ON, FISH ON until we meet again MISTER!
