George Washington Ruch 1835 - 1909

George Washington Ruch was born near Buffalo, Erie County, N. Y. May 30, 1835 and departed this life Sept. 27, 1909, aged 74 years, 3 months, 27 days.

He was married to Annie Jenette Lent at Naperville, Ill., January 1, 1858, where he worked at the blacksmith trade until 1876 when they moved to a farm in Woodbury County, Ia. In 1896 they came to Pierson, Ia., where they have since resided. He died of uremia, in the Southwestern Hospital at Heron Lake, Minn., where he had been taken for treatment.

He leaves four daughters and one son, one daughter having died in infancy. Those living are: Mrs. E. E. Leonard of Correctionville, Mrs. H. P. Baker of Jeffers, Minn., Mrs. James Landon, Edward and Flora Ruch of Pierson, who with three brothers, Peter Ruch of Naperville, Ill., J. T. Ruch of Pierson, Ia. and J. H. Ruch of Elgin, Ill. are left to mourn his loss.

Mr. Ruch united with the Baptist church in middle life and had also been a member of the I. 0. 0. F. for nearly fifty years. His remains were brought back to Pierson by his children. The funeral services, which were largely attended by his old friends and acquaintances, were held in the Christian church, conducted by Elder Wright. His Brother Odd Fellows laid him to rest by the side of his faithful wife, who had preceded him to the spirit world only 5 months and 6 days.

His was a hearty, whole-souled nature and his many friends will miss his cheery greeting and good-natured face.
