CUSHING, Iowa - Betty L. "Bootie" Gehrts, 65, of Cushing, formerly of Correctionville, died Sunday at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Barker Funeral Home in Correctionville. The body will be cremated following the service. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the funeral home.

Betty Lou Gehrts, 65, died Sunday, May 7, 1995, at 202 Hill St., Cushing, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 9, at 10:00 a.m. at the Barker Funeral Home, Correctionville, Iowa with Pastor Douglas Opp officiating. Wren Smith served as organist with Nancy Edwards as soloist. Nancy Flemming and Jeannie Buckley were in charge of the flowers. The body will be cremated and inurnment was in Fairfield Cemetery, rural Correctionville under the direction of Barker Funeral Home, Correctionville, Iowa.

Betty Lou Gehrts was born December 18,1929, at Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Ansel and Susie Alice (Durham) Short. She took her normal training at Morningside College, and she also received her LPN license from Western Iowa Tech. She taught in the Holstein, Lawton, Oto and Lakota School for 18 years, and then worked as a nurse for several years.

Survivors include a son, James & his wife Darlene of Omaha, Nebraska; a daughter, Susan and her husband Paul Flemming of Correctionville, four grandchildren; one brother, Robert and his wife Darline Short of Cedar Falls, Iowa; two sisters, Wanda Short and Alice and her husband Darwin Shever, all of Correctionville, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, William Short.
