HOMESTEADER OF 1868 DIES AT RIPE AGE OF 89 YEARS

After an illness of nearly a year dating back to two strokes of paralysis, Thomas Frazier, one of Woodbury county’s oldest residents, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Flathers, Wednesday night, July 28, 1909. Mr. Frazier who was 89 years old, came to this section of the country in 1868, filing on a homestead 5 ½ miles west of Correctionville, which he owned at the time of his death, together with an additional quarter section. He was a neighbor of A. W. Hatfield of this place, these two men homesteading their farms side by side 41 years ago.

Mr. Frazier’s wife died eleven years ago and they are now buried near each other in the Rock Branch cemetery. The funeral was held Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Mr. Turbeville of Moville. With one exception, the same pallbearers who bore the remains of Mrs. Frazier to the grave, performed this last office for the husband. W. G. Wenbourne, now in Canada was the absent one, N. S. Gardiner of Glouster, Ohio, a relative here on a visit, taking Mr. Wenbourne's place. The others were: A W. Hatfield, Jacob Miller, Henry Roche, George Rarrick and M. Mullennix. The funeral was very largely attended.

Six children survive, as follows: T. B. Frazier and Mrs. Elmira Flathers of Rock Branch; Mrs. Philena Eisentraut and Mrs. Mary Beckon of Sioux City, Mrs. Martha Bryant and Mrs. Mattie Seitel of California. All but the latter two were present at the funeral.
