Marjorie Ellen Anderson, 98, of Salix, Iowa passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 at home just like she wanted.

A Memorial Graveside Service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 23, 2021 in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa with Pastor Catie Newman, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Marjorie Ellen was born October 22, 1922 in Ohiowa, Nebraska on a farm, the daughter of Maddes Louis and Elsie Marie (Demaree) Swanson. She graduated in 1940. Her sister, June passed away in 1978. Her brother, Charles passed away in March 2021 from Covid.

She married Rex Curtis Apley in 1941. They had a daughter, Nancy Ellen in 1943 and son, Roger Dean in 1951. They moved several times over the years to Northern California, Nebraska, Arizona, and Southern California, landing in Portland, Oregon. They later divorced.

In 1978 Marjorie married Leslie “Andy” Doyle Anderson of Salix, Iowa. They built a new house in Salix, Iowa. They took many trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Sweden, all of which they enjoyed very much. Marjorie was a very good seamstress and later made windsocks and pot holders for everyone.

Les died suddenly November 7, 2009. Marjorie remained in their home alone until her death. She was totally deaf by then. She had help from many people, especially neighbor, Mike Lamoureux, and was able to stay in her home. She wanted to die at home in her own bed and it happened her way.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy (Richard) Hughes of Portland, Oregon; son, Roger (Jean) Apley of Dear Park, Washington; step-daughter, Joan (Frank) Turner; step-daughter-in-law, Karen Anderson; grandchildren, Rachel Cary, Seth Anderson, Leah Turk, and Chris Turner; great-grandchildren, Cal Turk and Mason Cary; brother, Robert (Linda) Swanson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andy Anderson, parents, Maddes and Elsie (Demaree) Swanson; step-son, Bob Anderson; brother, Charles; and sister, June.

Memorials in Marjorie’s memory may be directed to the family for future designations.
